Advice to Grow By ... Ask Us
Welcome to the UC Master Gardener community! Since 1980, the UC Master Gardener Program has helped deliver the University of California's pioneering research directly into the hands of those who share a passion for gardening and environmental stewardship. A program under UC Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR), we pride ourselves on being more than just a gardening program— we are in our communities helping build more sustainable landscapes.
Who are UC Master Gardeners?
UC Master Gardeners are rooted in education and grown in-service! In exchange for training from the University, UC Master Gardeners offer volunteer services and outreach to the general public in more than 1,286 demonstration, community and school gardens across 53 California counties. Last year 6,154 active UC Master Gardener volunteers donated 446,237 hours, and 6.8+ million hours have been donated since the program's inception.
Join Our Mission
Our mission is simple: "To extend research-based knowledge and information on home horticulture, pest management, and sustainable landscape practices to the residents of California." We stand guided by our core values and strategic initiatives, aiming to inspire, educate, and build communities of eco-conscious gardeners.
Make a Difference
The UC Master Gardener Program teaches people how to sustainably grow food and cultivate gardens to protect California's natural resources. By customizing local gardening outreach to account for unique local landscapes and the diversity of California's residents.
- hosts hands-on educational workshops that teach how to protect California's natural resources by gardening sustainably
- answers questions by email or phone about how to grow fruit, vegetables, and flowers and manage pests in the garden
- provides hands-on demonstrations at school, community, and demonstration gardens
- teaches horticulture skills to youth and adults in detention centers, seniors in memory care facilities, and veterans at military-serving organizations
- and does so much more!
